Ingredients
2 cups soft sweet butter or margarine
3/4 cup sifted icing sugar
1 egg yolk
1 1/2 tablespoons brandy
4 1/2 cups cake flour, sifted twice
48 whole cloves
Instructions
Cream butter or margarine well gradually add 3/4 cup sugar, then egg yolk, creaming well.
Add brandy.
Gradually work in flour to make soft dough.
Refrigerate 1 hour.
Shape dough into balls about 1 1/2 inches in diameter.
Stud each with a clove.
Bake on ungreased baking sheet, in preheated 350 °F. oven, until they turn pale gold.
Cool well on racks, and sift icing sugar generously over them.
Makes about 48.

I tried this recipe. I found the cookies were too bland the first time. I recommend adding a little almond extract to the mix.
